Primary admissions arrangements
We organise the admission of school places for all Hull residents. This is according to the admission arrangements. These are set out by each admissions authority. Our Academy, Trust and Voluntary Aided primary schools are responsible for their own admissions arrangements. They are also responsible for their own Admissions Authority. Admission to all non fee paying schools is organised by your local authority. Applications for any maintained school should be made to the authority in which you live. This is regardless of where your preferred school is.
If the number of applications received for a school is less than the school's published admission number, all who have applied will get a place. Your child might meet the criteria for entry to more than one of their school preferences. If this is the case, your child is offered a place at the school that you have ranked highest.
The number of applications might be more than the admission number. The admission authority will use its admission arrangements to decide who qualifies for places.
Admission arrangements
The admission arrangements set out how many children the schools admit. They state how they decide which applicants qualify for places. This is for if the number of applications is more than the number of places available.
For Hull schools, we decide the admission arrangements for all community primary schools. The governing bodies of voluntary aided schools, and the academy trusts of academy schools, decide the admission arrangements for their schools.
Objections about a schools admissions arrangements can be made to the schools adjudicator. These should be made before 15 May in the year they are set. If you feel that a school's admission arrangements are unlawful or do not follow the school admissions code, contact the School Adjudicator.
Admission policies for applications for future years have to be determined. Determination follows a period of consultation. It happens months before the start of the school year in which the policies apply.
Admission arrangements are available once they have been determined.
All voluntary aided, trust and academy schools are their own admissions authority. You can access each school's admission arrangements on the individual school's website.
