Apply for a pet shop licence

Pet shops and other businesses offering pets for sale must have a valid licence. This licence may set out a number of conditions to secure the wellbeing of the animals.

Application process

  • complete an application form 
  • provide a copy of your current liability insurance certificate 

Once an application has been received, a council officer will arrange to inspect the premises to ensure its suitability.

The licence will be issued once the licence conditions are met and after payment of the licence fee.

The annual licence period is December to November.
