COVID-19 service update -

From 1 April 2020 the Chancellor has announced a new £10,000 grant only available to businesses that qualify for Small Business Rates Relief and a grant of UP TO £25,000 for businesses in receipt of Retail Discount with a Rateable Value between £15,000 and £50,999. The Council is waiting for the government to provide further guidance, please continue to check here and Gov.UK for further details. The Council is expecting to receive further guidance from the Government on these grants on Monday 23rd March 2020.

Business rates are the way in which your business contributes to the cost of services in Hull. Business rates for 2019-2020 are detailed as follows -

The Department of Communities and Local Government in central government set business rates each year.

Business rates and the rates retention scheme

You will pay your business rates to us, as it is our responsibility to collect business rates on behalf of central government.

We keep about half of the business rates collected locally. This provides us with a financial incentive to improve the local economy. The remainder goes to central government for allocation to local authorities through grants.
