Hull and East Riding Coroners Court

The Senior Coroner for Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire Professor Paul Marks is endeavouring to ensure that scheduled inquests go ahead were possible.  However, in line with the Government’s guidance on limiting public gatherings due to the Coronavirus              (COVID-19) social distancing measures are being applied.  Where practical and with the families permission inquests will be heard without any family or witnesses being present.  An audio recording of proceedings will be available to the family after the inquest has been concluded.

If families do not agree to this approach for example because they have questions to put to someone whom is regarded as a key witness, then the inquest will be adjourned to a later date, the revised date and time being set as soon as possible.

A Coroners Officer will contact all bereaved families who have inquests scheduled in the forthcoming months to discuss the options that are available to them.

The Coroner investigates unexplained, unexpected and unnatural deaths.
