COVID-19 - Service Update
Your marriage is a special occasion and we look forward to welcoming you to the Guildhall and being part of your special day.
The current pandemic has meant that we have had to make a number of changes to the services we provide and whilst we recognise the importance of your day, we ask that you help us to keep you and our staff safe by following the measures we have put in place.
Numbers permitted to attending a ceremony in our room on the ground floor of the Guildhall will be restricted in line with the government guidance in place at the time of the ceremony.
The total number permitted to attend a ceremony includes both the couple and guests, including children.
It is not possible to move furniture to allow seating in households or bubbles. Chairs have been appropriately spaced to allow social distancing and to make sure that we can safely accommodate the maximum number of people permitted.
Face coverings must be warn when attending a ceremony and only the couple are permitted to remove face coverings during the ceremony.
Access the document below to find out more about these and other restrictions currently in place -
Getting Married in our ceremony room in the Guildhall
Our register office ceremony room is located in The Guildhall. The Guildhall is in the city centre on Alfred Gelder Street. The Guildhall is a prestigious building, providing an impressive setting for you to share your special day with family and friends. Locations such as the beautiful Queen's Gardens or Wilberforce Gardens, at rear of Wilberforce House, in the museum quarter on Little High Street are only a short walk away and can provide great backdrops for photographs.
Possible disruption due to building works - Access to the Guildhall via an alternative entrance
Please be aware that in 2021 there are essential maintenance works taking place at the Guildhall. These works will impact the exterior and front entrance of the building. Scaffolding will be in place at the front of the building and down the side on Hanover Square.
When attending ceremonies at the Guildhall all parties will enter the building via an alternative side entrance on Alfred Gelder Street. This alternative entrance is away from the building works and enables you to make the most of the entrance area and the ornate features of the building for photographs. These doors will only be opened 30 minutes before the time of a ceremony
Parking for ceremony cars is still available in the gated area down the side of the building on Hanover Square. Gates will be opened to allow access for ceremony cars.
Please remember access to the Guildhall for ceremonies will be via the entrance on Alfred Gelder Street.
