Nationally it is estimated 1.2 million women experience domestic violence every year and around 400,000 were victims of sexual assault. Each year in Hull, around 24,690 women experience domestic abuse. Humberside Police respond to between 550 and 650 calls every month. Last year, domestic abuse services in the city supported over 2,700 women and their children.
The White Ribbon campaign is an educational campaign by men aimed at men. The wearing of a white ribbon is a statement of men's opposition to violence against women.
How to show your support
Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. Whilst the work continues all year round, we urge men (and women) and boys to wear a ribbon for one or two weeks starting on 25 November to mark international day for the eradication of violence against women. Support the campaign and the city by signing the pledge.
How to become an ambassador
We have recruited a number of male white ribbon ambassadors who aim to raise awareness to as many people as possible through their workplaces and local communities.
If you would like to become an ambassador or nominate someone else to get involved you can email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
