Covid – 19 Changes to Homesearch and Homelessness

As we start to resume our service we would like to draw your attention to some of the changes we have made in order to ensure we are following government guidance to keep you and our officers safe.

Applying for housing or homelessness assistance

Wherever possible, applications and approaches will be received digitally or over the telephone.  Face to face services will only be provided when absolutely necessary, providing there is a safe way of doing it.

Self-isolation

At every stage of the process we will ask whether you and your household are self-isolating or have any symptoms of Covid-19.
If the answer is yes, the process will be paused until the end of your two week isolation period.  You must tell us if this applies and not worry about losing the property you have been matched to for this reason.  We will wait until we can continue, once your isolation period has ended.

Pre-tenancy interviews & Clear for transfer assessments

If you are matched to an available property, a pre-tenancy interview (or clear for transfer assessment for current Hull City Council tenants) will take place over the telephone.  You will be asked to provide any necessary documents digitally if you are able to.

Viewings

Viewings will not be accompanied.  Officers will wait outside the property whilst you look around.  You will be provided with hand sanitiser which you must use before entering and you will be asked not to touch anything whilst inside.  Internal doors will be left open so you don’t need to touch them and windows will be opened to keep fresh air circulating.

You will be asked to limit the number of people you bring to the viewing and children should not attend wherever possible.  If children do attend, they must stay close to you throughout and you must make sure they do not touch any surfaces.

You will be asked to bring your original documents to the viewing (such as proof of ID).

Tenancy sign ups

Tenancy sign ups will be completed at the property.  Your tenancy agreement and any other necessary paperwork will be left in the property for you to sign.  Our officer will wait outside for you to bring them the signed documents.

You will be given information about anything else you need to organise yourself after the sign up and help is always available over the telephone should you need it.
