Breathing Space scheme (mortgage assistance)

If you are an owner occupier and you are in difficulty with your mortgage there may be help available through the Breathing Space scheme.

If you are having difficulties with your mortgage because of a drop in income due to losing your job, ill health or some other change in circumstances a Breathing Space loan would offer short term help.

Breathing Space offers an interest free secured loan that provides help to pay your mortgage.

The loan can pay for your mortgage and/or continuing your mortgage instalments for up to 12 months, depending on your circumstances. It can also help with secured loan arrears and instalments.

The loan is taken out for a three year period, and you do not have to make monthly repayments, unless you want to, but the loan has to be repaid at the end of the three year period or when you sell your property (whichever is first).

With a Breathing Space loan there are no -

  • fees
  • set up costs
  • interest charges

To qualify for help under the Breathing Space scheme your mortgage and secured debts plus our loan should be below 90 per cent of the value of your home, but anyone can apply as there are no house value restrictions.

The scheme is ran by Wakefield Council you can apply direct to them or contact us on 01482 300 300 for further advice.
