Parenting courses

Children don’t come with an instruction manual so when it comes to parenting, how do you know what’s best and what works? In Hull we believe that 'every parent matters' and recognise that bringing up children is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Parents do a fantastic job, but there are times when some extra support may be needed. As part of the support available to parents in Hull we offer the following courses to help - 

Family Links Nurturing

This course runs for 10 weeks - 2 hours per week.

The parenting puzzle – a toolkit of useful ideas to help you enjoy family life. The course helps parents and children understand and deal with behaviour, improve relationships at home and in school, develop confidence and self-esteem. This course is for adults only and suitable for parents and carers of children under the age of 13.

HENRY Programme (Health Exercise, Nutrition for the really Young)

This course runs for 8 weeks - 2 hours per week.

HENRY – Health, Exercise, and Nutrition for the Really Young is an eight week parenting programme. However we do add on an extra week for a coffee morning to introduce the programme to parents.  The programme aims to help parents to understand and manage feelings and behaviour whilst becoming more aware of healthy lifestyles and the role it plays in family life. Crèche places are available on this course. 

Topics include - 
•    family goals
•    styles of parenting
•    guidance and praise
•    family reward systems
•    healthy eating habits
•    giving children choices
•    time to be active
•    let’s eat healthily
•    introducing solid foods
•    portion sizes and food labels

Incredible Years Programme 

This course runs for 14 weeks – 2 hours per week.

Incredible Years programme is ideal for parents/carers who have care of children aged 2 - 8 Years. The course includes - 
•    building stronger relationships through play 
•    supporting your child/children to build strong social skills 
•    support children with their emotions 
•    the use of praise and incentives to help encourage the behaviour you want 
•    establish rules, routines and setting effective Limits
•    using positive discipline and handling unwanted behaviour

Triple P

This course runs for 8 weeks - 2 hours per week.

Take the guesswork out of parenting, meet other parents and find new simple and practical strategies to help you confidently manage your child’s behaviour, prevent problems developing and build strong, healthy relationships. This course is for adults only and suitable for parents and carers of children aged 18 months to 11 years old.

Teen Triple P

This course runs for 8 weeks - 2 hours per week.

Triple P especially for parents of teenagers. This course is for adults only and suitable for parents and carers of children aged 10 - 17 years old.

Stepping Stones Triple P 

This course runs for 10 weeks - 2 hours per week.

Triple P for the needs of families who have a child with a disability or additional need, such as ADHD and Autism. This course is for adults only and suitable for parents and carers of children under the age of 12.

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC)

This course runs for 13 weeks - 4 hours per week.

Meet other parents, get help to make sure your voice is heard and information and strategies to help and support with the challenges in raising happy and successful children. This course is for adults only and suitable for parents and carers of children aged 3 - 18 years old.

Strengthening Families 10 - 14 (UK) 

This course runs for 7 weeks - 2.5 hours per week.

The course helps you prepare for the teenage years and build stronger relationships with your child and focuses on behavioural problems in adolescence, including alcohol and drug use. This course is suitable for parents and carers of children aged 10 - 14 years of age and children aged 10 - 14 years old.

Supported Separated Families (SSF)  

This course runs for 4 weeks - 2.5 hours per week.

An introduction to parenting for parents who are not currently having contact with their children. The group is a supportive environment for parents and includes parenting strategies, child development and contact. The programme includes a taste of some of the other parenting programmes available and parents can be signposted to the other programmes when appropriate.
