Council tax appeals

To appeal against your council tax banding visit GOV.UK

You can appeal against a council tax decision, when -

  • we are charging you council tax and you do not think that you are the person who should pay
  • you think you should get a discount and we are not giving you one, or we are not giving you the correct amount of discount
  • you think your property should be exempt from council tax

How to appeal

You should write to us at -

We look at your appeal and let you know our decision as soon as we can. If you are still not happy with this decision, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal.

The Valuation Tribunal is not part of the council. If you decide to appeal, you are able to tell the tribunal about your case and we are able to say why we have made our decision. The tribunal will decide whether our decision is right.

We tell you how to appeal to the Valuation Tribunal when we tell you our decision.

Visit the Valuation Tribunal Service website for more information

Please note that if you make an appeal, you must still pay your bill while you are waiting for the appeal to be dealt with.
