The Electoral Register

The electoral register sometimes called the 'electoral roll,' lists the names and addresses of everyone who's registered to vote.

for more information visit gov.uk website

We keep two registers -

  • the electoral register, can also be referred to as the full register
  • the open register, can also be referred to as the edited register

The Electoral Register

The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections. This register is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only people who are eligible can vote. It is also used for other limited legally specified activities, such as detecting crime such as fraud, calling people for jury service and checking credit applications.

The Open Register

The open register is an extract of the electoral register, but is not used for elections. It can be bought by any person, company or organisation. It is used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details or for commercial activities such as marketing. Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. Removing your details from the open register does not affect your right to vote.

Opt in ot out of the open register

If you are already registered to vote, you can request to opt-in or opt-out of the open register by calling or emailing your request along with your name and address.

Email -  electoral.services@hullcc.gov.uk
Telephone - 01482 300 302

If you are not registered to vote, you will need to register. You will be asked your open register preference as part of the application.

Your Personal Information

We only use the information you give us for electoral purposes. We look after personal information securely and we follow the Data Protection Act 1998

We do not give personal information about you and the other people in your household to anyone else or another organisation unless we have to by law.

Registration Dates

Towards the end of the summer, we send out forms to each household to check the information we hold and gather details of any changes. An updated register is then published on 1 December each year.

During the year, by law, we must publish updates on the first working day of every month except October and November when we do not publish.
