We provide a clinical waste collection service free of charge to domestic properties and at an economic rate for trade premises for customers who have a medical condition, we will collect; incontinence pads, colostomy waste, dialysis waste, soiled dressings in approved yellow sacks and needles and hypodermic syringes if contained within approved sharps boxes.
Yellow plastic sacks for non-infectious clinical waste other than sharps, are provided free of charge for domestic customers and will be delivered at the time of collection. Clinical waste containers and needle bins are not provided by the waste management department, but doctors/health workers should be able to arrange for such items to be provided.
Clinical waste (other than sharps - see advice above) will only be collected if contained in a yellow sack with "Clinical waste for incineration only" clearly printed on it.
Sacks must be securely fastened, and if incorrectly prepared, an operative will attempt to contact the customer to explain how the sacks should be presented for collection.
Collection will be from within the boundary of the property or premise, and exact collection arrangements will be agreed with the customer by letter.
Please note that the waste must be accessible at the time of collection. If access cannot be gained and the operative cannot contact the customer the operative will return on the next scheduled collection day to attempt to make a collection.
Change of collection point or collection date
Customers will be informed by letter if the day of collection is to be changed and a minimum of one week's notice will be provided.
During holiday periods (such as Christmas and Easter), the collections will take place one day later than the standard schedule: Monday's collection will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday's on the Wednesday, and so on. Collections are back to normal the following week.
