The UK is currently experiencing a rise in the cost of living. The government have created a guide to explain the range of measures and support that may be of benefit.

Gov.uk Cost of Living Support

Please note that we are aware that some of the links on the gov.uk website refer you back to your local council, for further information and to check eligibility. We have created a list which is at the bottom of this page to make it easier for you.

If you need immediate financial help including some of the following - 

  • budgeting loans
  • hardship payments
  • food parcels
  • debt advice 

you may be entitled to emergency support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or us -

Energy

Council Tax Energy Rebate - the Council Tax Energy Rebate is a one off payment of £150 to help towards the rise in energy prices.

Energy Saving Materials - The warm homes team provide a specialist service with the primary aim of reducing fuel poverty and increasing domestic energy efficiency in the city.

Financial

Council Tax Support - You may be eligible for Council Tax support in the form of discount or exemption.

Household Support Fund - Help from the Household Support Fund is available both to residents in private rented accommodation and in Council housing. This is usually in the form of small scale help with other immediate costs that are affecting your ability to pay your rent and avoid eviction (e.g. fuel vouchers).

Travel

Bus Passes - Senior citizens and some disabled people within certain criteria are eligible for a bus pass. This allows the user to travel 24 hours a day every day on regular bus services, providing the journey begins in Hull.

School Travel - Your child may be eligible for a free school travel pass.

If you use public transport regularly, you may purchase a travel card, for unlimited travel in and around the city. Access Travel Hull for information on KAT (Kids and Teenagers) Cards and travel cards.
