Sites of nature conservation importance

In 2008 we reviewed our designated sites of nature conservation importance (SNCI), alongside the open space assessment.

This review involved undertaking Phase 1 habitat surveys which involved producing a habitat map for each site. A list of species encountered on each site was also compiled, and the quality and potential of the sites were assessed using DEFRA criteria.

The report makes a number of recommendations, including a list of sites which it considers would benefit from greater conservation management and possible Local Nature Reserve status.
