Smoke control area
The whole of the Authority area is a smoke control area covered by a single smoke control order. This means that only authorised fuels and/or exempt appliances can be used within the city boundary.
Hull is a Smoke Control Area
It is illegal to emit smoke from a chimney of a building unless you use -
- a government approved appliance together with the manufacturers permitted fuel or
- smokeless fuel

There are a few exemptions within the Smoke Control area.
