Register a birth

Attending a new appointment

If the parents are married or in a civil partnership, only one parent needs to attend the appointment.

If unmarried or not in a civil partnership, both parents need to attend for the father's details to be recorded in the register. There is no need to bring your baby to the appointment.

If you are a same-sex couple wishing to register, contact us at register.office@hullcc.gov.uk. We will check some details with you before your appointment. This is to make sure we give accurate advice and that your appointment runs smoothly.

Information is available about what you will need to register a birth. It can be found at gov.uk website.

It is very important that the information recorded in the register is correct. You will be asked to check the register page carefully before signing it and the end of the appointment. It may be useful to bring documents to refer to and use to check the accuracy of spellings. Any corrections that have to be made after the registration has been completed can take time. It will also cost up to £90, plus the cost of replacement certificates.
