Housing, garages and lifeline rent payments

COVID - 19 Service update -

We understand that you may not be able to pay your rent in your preferred way at the moment. This may be due to isolating at home or due to Customer Service Centres and Information Points being temporarily closed from 24 March until further notice.  

We understand that this is a worry for many customers, however you can still pay your rent online, details are below -

You need your reference number which is ten digits. You can find your payment reference at the top right hand corner of your rent statement or on a rent notification letter issued every March. 


Make a secure payment anytime with myPayments. You need - 

  • your debit or credit card
  • an email address to be sent a receipt (optional)

From Thursday 15 February 2018 you can only make online payments using a compatible browser.

Direct debit

We can set up regular payments from your bank or building society account on your behalf.  You can download an app to your smartphone for your bank or building society, check their website for more details. Payment by this method is covered by the direct debit guarantee. 

Choose to pay by -

  • weekly instalments (50 weeks with two free weeks over the Christmas period)
  • 12 monthly instalments on the 1st, 6th, 13th, 20th,  27th or 31st of each month   

The easiest way to set up a Direct Debit is to ring our Housing Finance team on 613 636 however if you prefer you can complete and return our direct debit mandate which you can access below

If you are in receipt of housing benefit and have a rent payment to make, a monthly direct debit is not an option, however you can set up a standing order for the amount, refer to ‘Transfers or Standing Order’ below.

Transfers or standing orders

You can transfer a one off payment or set up regular payments from your bank or building society through online banking, telephone banking by downloading your bank or building society's app to your smartphone. Alternatively you can fill in the standing order form and return directly to your bank or building society. You can access the standing order forms, amend and cancel mandates below.

  • 00000800 followed by your ten digit reference number


You can pay anytime by automated telephone payment on 01482 300 300 (select option 1). Our contact centre staff are available to take payments -

  • Monday to Friday, 8am - 7pm
  • Saturdays, 9am - 1pm

You will need -

  • your ten digit reference number
  • a debit or credit card


Make your cheque or postal order payable to - Kingston upon Hull City Council - and write your reference number on the back. Send it to -
