Sites of nature conservation importance

In 2008, we reviewed our designated sites of nature conservation importance (SNCI). This was alongside the open space assessment.

This review involved undertaking Phase 1 habitat surveys. They involved producing a habitat map for each site. A list of species encountered on each site was also compiled. The quality and potential of the sites were assessed using DEFRA criteria.

The report makes a number of recommendations. It includes a list of sites it considers would benefit from greater conservation management and possible Local Nature Reserve status.
