DESCRIPTION - 

  1. start your walk at the junction of National Avenue and Setting Dyke footpath, between Briarfield Road and Wises Farm Road, take the grassed footpath on the right/North side of Setting Dyke Drain and follow the footpath west
  2. on reaching County Road North, cross the busy road, and continue along the public footpath
  3. cross the service road between Cropton Road and Bricknell Playing Fields & continue on the footpath
  4. near the Hull to Scarborough railway line you will need to turn right and follow the public footpath through the woodland
  5. coming out of the woodland, at the fork where you join a shared use footway and cycle track, take the footbridge on the left and cross the railway line to join Priory Drive
  6. continue walking along Priory Drive to the junction with Hotham Road South and Priory Road
  7. turn left onto Priory Road and carry on until you come to Shropshire Close
  8. turn left onto Shropshire Close, walking forward until you reach Warwickshire Close
  9. just past the entrance to Warwickshire Close there is a treelined footpath and cycle track on the right. Follow this path as it bears left
  10. continue walking straight, following this track until you pass under County Road North flyover
  11. walk up the ramp, on your right hand side, to join County Road North
  12. at the top of the ramp turn right onto County Road North, continue walking until you reach the footpath on the far side Setting Dyke drain
  13. turn right at Setting Dyke drain and continue to walk along the public footpath until you reach National Avenue, which was your starting point

FEATURES OF INTEREST

An early drainage scheme was initiated in 1172 and Setting Dyke, and the Hundolf Channel (where Princes' Avenue is now) were dug to drain what is now the area of Newlands.
