Domestic Abuse Awareness - the Impact on Adults, Children, and the Community - Learning and Development courses

To increase awareness of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people. This is a 2-day course, which is interactive and involves individual and group activities, during which participants will be expected to share their skills, knowledge and expertise.

Learning outcomes

Day 1

• Examined their own attitudes and understanding of domestic abuse.
• Explored the forms domestic abuse can take and the contexts in which it can occur. Examined some of the myths and assumptions around domestic abuse.
• Looked at what services and support are available locally.
• Examined their own practice and issues in the workplace in response to domestic abuse.
• Examined agencies responsibilities in relation to risk identificaiton, assessment & management Explained some of the lessons learned from the risk identification, assessment & management process
• Described the Multi-Agency Risk Assessmetn Conference (MARAC) process and understand the guidance around this

Day 2

• Examined their own attitudes and understanding of domestic abuse

• Developed an understanding of the effects of domestic abuse on children and young people
• Developed an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on the parent and child relationship
• Gained knowledge of how to offer appropriate help and support to adults, children and young people who are or have experienced domestic abuse

Before enrolling onto this course, the pre-requisite course; Safeguarding Children - A Shared Responsibility must be attended first.
