Conservation areas are places of historical or architectural importance. We want to preserve or enhance them. These are not like listed buildings, as there are no national standards or grades. Local authorities decide which areas to protect.

The mapping system My Hull Maps shows the location of each conservation area.
We put together a character appraisal for each area saying what is special about it. You can see these and large-scale maps showing the boundaries of all the conservation areas at The Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street.

Recent public consultations
Ella Street Conservation Area - 28 April 2025 Cabinet approved updates to the Ella Street Conservation Area. An Article 4 Direction is currently being drafted for publication. Full publication of changes will take place in Summer/Autumn 2025.
Newland Park Conservation Area - 28 April 2025 Cabinet approved updates to the Newland Conservation Area. An Article 4 Direction is currently being drafted for publication. Full publication of changes will take place in Summer/Autumn 2025.
Broadway Conservation Area - Public consultation has been completed and plans will be considered by Planning Committee in September 2025.
Marfleet Conservation Area - Public consultation has been completed and proposals for adoption will be returned to Committee in October 2025.
Sculcoates Conservation Aera - Public consultation has been completed and proposals for adoption will be returned to Committee in October 2025.
Recent updates
Garden Village Conservation Area
On 23 September, the planning committee approved the publication of the following updates to the Garden Village Conservation -
- Publication of an updated Character Appraisal and Management Plan.
- Adoption of an Article 4 Direction for ‘Cross Overs’ and ‘Hard Standings’.
Formal notification is currently taking place for the new Garden Village Article 4 Direction.
Hessle Road Conservation Area
The 18 March 2025 Planning Committee approved the adoption of the new Hessle Road Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan.
