Offer day and what happens next
If your application was made –
- before the closing date, we will update the outcome of your application, and allocated school, on Monday 2 March 2026
- after the closing date, you may not receive an offer of a school place until after Wednesday 18 March 2026
Notifications
We will notify you of the outcome, by –
- updating your application status on the My School Portal
- email, if you have opted in to receiving updates from us
- sending you a letter, if you have not submitted your application using the My School Portal, or have opted out of receiving updates from us
We will not tell you the status of your application, and allocated school, by telephone.

How places are allocated
Each school has a published number of places that are available for allocation.
Where there are -
- places available for all pupils that have applied, all pupils will qualify for a place
- more applications than places available, the oversubscription criteria will be used
If your child -
- qualifies for a place at only one of the schools named on the application form, your child will be offered a place at that school
- qualifies for a place at more than one of the schools named on your application form, your child will be offered a place at the school you ranked highest
- does not qualify for a place at any of the schools named on your application form, your child will be offered a place at your nearest school which has a place available
If you live outside of Hull and have applied for a Hull school your local authority will forward your application to us.
We will notify them if your child qualifies for a place at a Hull school and based on the order of your preferences, your local authority will then confirm which school place your child should be given.
What happens next
If we cannot offer you your first preference of secondary school, you will receive a letter shortly after 2 March 2026
This letter will have enclosed the appeal guidance and form.
If you do not want to accept the offer of a school place, you must confirm with the School Admissions Team what arrangements have been made for your child’s education for September 2026 by -

Change of school preference or address
If you need to change your school preferences or address you must contact the School Admissions Team to request a change from using the details above.
You must return this document to us using the email above, or the address specified on the form, if sent by post.
Changes after the deadline will be considered as late, even if the original application was on time.
