The Council Tax Service may contact you by -
- text messages
- a telephone call
- by letter
If you have any questions or concerns, contact us by emailing ctaxsr@hullcc.gov.uk.
You can check your Council Tax details online, by logging in or registering to manage your my council tax account.
An email sent from us will say it’s from ‘named person’@hullcc.gov.uk’. It will have your name within the email and will have a set paragraph at the bottom of the email.
The email message may ask you to sign in and check your Online Council Tax account.
Text message
If you fall behind with your Council Tax payments, a text message from us will state that it’s from ‘HullCouncil’, it will also contain your name and a hyperlink.
The hyperlink will start with https:// and be followed by a personalised reference. When clicked, it will take you to a verification page.
For security and GDPR reasons, you will need to enter your postcode. You will then have three attempts to enter the correct postcode before access is blocked. This can be upper or lower case and can be with or without a space.
Once your individual link is verified, you will be shown a new page containing your account number, name and address and current amount of Council Tax that is outstanding and needs to be paid. You can pay in full or make a part payment, however this may not stop further recovery action. If uncertain you should email ctaxsr@hullcc.gov.uk to arrange a payment plan.
The page also shows different options to make payments and where you can get debt advice.
Telephone call
When you receive a call from us, we will ask to speak to the person named on your Council Tax bill and then state that the call is from Hull City Council and ask a validation question to ensure that we are talking to the correct person.
Letters
Our letters will always show Hull City Council’s logo and have our contact details in the top right-hand corner.
