Claiming a seized vehicle

To claim any seized vehicle, the owner and registered keeper must provide one of the below forms of identification -

  • passport
  • driving licence

and at least one of the following forms of identification -

  • national insurance card
  • credit and debit card
  • current council tax statement
  • current utility bills no older than 3 months
  • current lease agreement

Persons claiming any seized vehicles must also provide proof of ownership in the form of a vehicle registration document (VRC). This must be in your name and address and you need to provide at least one of the following -

  • a current insurance certificate
  • a current MOT certificate
  • a vehicle excise licence reminder form
  • a purchase invoice

If we require further proof of legal ownership or identification, we will notify you.

Collecting a seized vehicle

Where the council is satisfied a person has provided the required identification, the vehicle must be claimed within 10 working days. If this fails to take place we will sell or dispose of the vehicle and any proceeds set against the seizure costs.
