Free school meals

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you are in receipt of any of benefits. Further information can be found below.

Eligibility

Targeted free school meals

If you receive the following benefits with annual earned income of £7,400 or less -

  • Universal Credit
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • the guarantee element of Pension Credit

Expanded free school meals

If you receive the following benefits with annual earned income above £7,400 -

  • Universal Credit
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • the guarantee element of Pension Credit

Children who get benefit payments directly, instead of through a parent or guardian can also get free school meals.

Your child must also be attending at least one full day of state funded school per week to qualify for free school meals.

If your child is attending an East Riding school, apply to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

You will receive a decision regarding your application by letter or e mail within 7 days. The school will be notified electronically if approved.

If you are entitled to Targeted Free School Meals the school the child attends will distribute free school meal vouchers for the school holidays.

If you have not received a free school meal voucher for the holiday period, please contact your school.
