Hygiene and infectious waste

Hygiene waste

Waste such as below, produced in the home, is classed as hygiene waste -

  • incontinence waste
  • catheters
  • non-infectious dressings
  • sanitary waste
  • stoma bags
  • soiled bedding

Double bag this waste using bin liners and place it in your black wheeled bin. If your healthcare professional thinks you generate too much waste, we may be able to offer a yellow striped bag collection or an additional black bin.

Infectious waste

We do not collect infectious or hazardous waste. Contact your healthcare professional for more information and to arrange its safe disposal.

Sharps boxes

A sharps box (or bin) is a puncture-resistant, sealable container designed for the safe disposal of sharp medical instruments such as needles and syringes.

  • sharps boxes must not be placed inside any other sacks, bags or domestic bins, they must be visible for collection
  • sharps boxes must be locked shut prior to a collection

You can request a sharps box collection using the below form.
