Memorial gardens
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed memorial gardens. We are grateful for the thoughtful and considered feedback received throughout the consultation process.
Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council remain committed to providing permanent memorials for those affected by the Legacy Funeral Director investigation.
Given the wide-reaching impact of this incident, two memorial gardens will be created. One at Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium in Hull, and another at Lelley Fields Crematorium near Preston in the East Riding of Yorkshire. These spaces are intended to offer peaceful places for reflection and remembrance, and will be suitable for the scattering of ashes. The Hull memorial will be known as the Forget-Me-Not Garden, while the East Riding site will be called Butterfly Grove.
Architects from both councils have worked closely with the professional teams at each crematorium to ensure the designs are respectful, appropriate to their surroundings, and meet the needs of those affected.
We’ve carefully reviewed all consultation responses. While the overall designs remain largely unchanged, several meaningful updates have been made based on your feedback.
You can access the final designs and a summary of the changes through our feedback report.
With the consultation now complete, work has begun on the memorial gardens, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
