All requests for damaged or new road markings and traffic signs must be made by completing the online form below.
Provide an exact location and description within your request, and we will action accordingly. All reports are logged and reviewed by the highways and traffic team. Due to the volume of enquiries, you may not receive a direct response or an update.

White H bar marking requests
Before we can consider any request for a white ‘H’ bar marking adjacent to a private driveway, we require evidence of obstruction. This can include photographs or a police log number. Once your application request is received, you will be contacted by email to provide this evidence. Following a review, you will receive a decision and explanation by letter or email.
Please note -
- there is a charge for providing these markings
- new vehicular accesses should have been in use for at least six weeks before an application is made
- requests in locations where many of the nearby properties have similar driveways will be refused
- these markings are not a means of resolving local parking disputes or issues
We review all requests received and reserve the right to reject applications based on location and proximity to other driveways or restrictions.
Roads resurfaced without markings
Re-marking is typically done after the new surface has fully cured to ensure durability. This may take several days, depending on the weather and contractor schedules. All markings will be reinstalled accordingly and alongside any current Traffic Regulation Orders.
Traffic signal defects
All permanent traffic signals within the city boundary are operated and maintained by us. This is except for the following, which are maintained by Highways England -
- A63 Hessle Road
- A63 Castle Street
- A63 Roger Millward Way
- A1033 Hedon Road
Defects to temporary traffic signals are not usually our responsibility. If you need to report a defect to a temporary traffic signal, this would need to be passed on to the contractor who is carrying out the works.
You can check the one.network system to find out which contractor this needs to be reported to.
If the one.network system shows that the temporary lights are our responsibility, or if you are reporting a fault with traffic signals which are operated and maintained by us, you can do this by using the form below.
