Council committees

The council is organised into Committees that undertake 5 key functions.

Committees make decisions within the overall policy framework set by Full Council. They fall into these groupings -

  • the Executive Decision Making committee is responsible for making decisions about the commitment of the budget allocated annually by council each year
  • the Overview and Scrutiny committee is responsible for reviewing Executive decisions. They make sure that they are subject to challenge and developing council policy
  • the Regulatory and Statutory Committees are responsible making non-executive decisions on matters that by law need to be determined by the council on behalf of the community. This can be such as Planning and Licensing
  • the Governance committee is responsible for making sure that the council is managed in accordance with the budget and rules within the council's Constitution
  • the Joint Committees, Partnerships and Trusts are responsible for decision-making which involves bodies other than us. For example, East Riding of Yorkshire Council
