All scrap metal dealers require a licence under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
A scrap metal dealer is a person who runs a business -
- wholly or partly buying or selling scrap metal, whether or not it is sold in the form which it was bought
- as a motor salvage operator
Types of licence
Site licence
A site licence allows you to buy or sell scrap metal from a fixed location.
Collector's licence
A collector's licence allows you to travel within our area to collect scrap metal.
