Public Spaces Protection Order

My area is covered by a PSPO

Areas covered by a PSPO requires people in the area NOT to carry out certain activities and places requirements on them to comply with the Order.

The conditions of the PSPO apply to everyone within the designated ‘restricted areas’. Anyone in these areas must abide by the conditions imposed.

There is a control on the drinking of alcohol in public spaces within the restricted areas, the council are satisfied that anti-social behaviour linked with the drinking of alcohol has in the past, and is likely to have in the future, a negative effect on the quality of life of those who live, work and visit the restricted areas.

The PSPO gives police officers or police community support officers (PCSO’s) the powers to order a person to stop drinking alcohol in the restricted areas, and remove alcohol from them.

In addition to the alcohol restrictions, individuals are not permitted to act in an anti-social manner in the restricted area.

Any person who fails without reasonable excuse to comply with any requirement may be committing an offence in which they may be fined or summons to court.

You can find a map of the areas covered by a PSPO on our downloads page.
