Historic registers

Once a new register is published, the previous version of the register is available for public inspection at the British Library in London.

Due to ongoing maintenance work, some registers from before 2005 may not be readily available. We strongly recommend that you contact them via email customer@bl.uk before planning your visit to ensure the information will be available. More information can be found on the British Library.

Buy a copy of the Open Register

You can buy a copy of the open register for commercial or marketing purposes. It can also be known as the edited register. The open register has names and addresses of electors who have not chosen to opt out of the open register.

The cost of the open register is based on the format required and the number of records to be purchased. The cost is set out in legislation and is the same across the United Kingdom. The fees for sale of the open register are -

  • in data format, £20 plus £1.50 per 1000 entries, or remaining part of 1000 entries
  • in print format, £10 plus £5 per 1000 entries, or remaining part of 1000 entries
