Police and Crime Commissioner

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) currently oversees local police to ensure they meet community needs.

They handle -

  • policing strategies
  • budgets
  • Council Tax for police
  • public information on police activities

and appoint and dismiss chief constables.

Our PCC covers the Humberside police area. This includes the 4 local councils -

  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council
  • Hull City Council
  • North Lincolnshire Council
  • North East Lincolnshire Council

One of these authorities leads the election with the appointment of a Police Area Returning Officer (PARO). The PARO advises the neighbouring councils on how to conduct the election.

The latest poll was delivered by the PARO from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The poll was held on Thursday 2 May 2024.

There are no scheduled Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales are scheduled to be abolished at the end of their current electoral cycle in 2028. Their responsibilities for holding police forces to account will be transferred to regional mayors or local council leaders.
