Electric vehicle charge points

The government has announced the banning of all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2030. Hybrids will be banned from 2035.

If you have an electric vehicle, you may decide to have a home charger installed. This is if you have access to off-street parking. Grants are available from the Government's Office of Zero Emission Vehicles.

We know that there are around 8,000 properties in the city which do not have access to off-street parking. This might make charging a vehicle an issue.

We are looking at how we can address this issue. There are an increasing number of public charging facilities at supermarkets. We have also installed charging points at the following car parks in the city centre -

  • Osborne Street
  • Lowgate Street
  • Worship Street

You can access a free website called Zap-Map to find all the location of all public chargers in the UK.
