Community Payback

Offenders can be sentenced to carry out unpaid work through Community Payback. This takes place in -

  • Humberside
  • Lincolnshire
  • North Yorkshire

Penalties

Under the Criminal Damage Act 1971 it makes it an offence for any person, without lawful excuse, to –

  • destroy
  • cause damage

Murals placed on a property with the permission of the property owner is not criminal damage.

If you supply evidence, it may help us act against anyone responsible for graffiti. Action may result in -

  • £100 fixed penalty
  • prosecution –
    • a maximum penalty of £5,000
    • additional costs for repairing any damage
