Escape route
Think in advance of what you would do if there were a fire in your flat or elsewhere in your building and you need to get out.
- find out where the fire exits are
- it is easy to get confused in smoke, so it’s important to know how many doors you need to go through to reach the stairs
- your own flat may have more than one escape route, for example, doors leading to a different access corridor, or the use of a common balcony which leads to an escape route
- talk through your ‘escape plan’ with everyone who lives in your home
- if you know you will be unable to evacuate from the building without using the lift, contact the High Rise Team on 01482 616 108
You can arrange a home fire safety visit through the Humberside Fire & Rescue website.
- identify and be aware of the potential fire risks within your home
- know what to do to reduce or prevent the risk of fire
- put together an escape plan in case a fire does break out, and make sure you have working smoke alarms
