Bridges and structures

Reporting a problem with a bridge or highway structure

We inspect bridges on a two-yearly cycle, but sometimes damage or issues may arise before our scheduled inspections. If you notice a structure that appears dangerous, damaged, or in poor condition, please report it to us immediately.

When reporting we will need the -

  • bridge or structure's name (if known)
  • location and obstacle crossed
  • road or street name, or nearby landmark
  • nature and description of the problem

Report a bridge or structure problem (opens in new window)

Once you report the problem, we will assess its importance and respond appropriately.

Serious incidents, damage to a structure, or risk of life

For any serious incidents or risk to life regarding a bridge or highway structure contact the police on 999.

Railway bridges

Network Rail maintains the majority of bridges in Hull that carry or cross railway lines. In the event of a bridge strike (impact by vehicle) or significant damage to these structures, Network Rail must be informed immediately.

The contact number for Network Rail and the individual structure’s reference number can be found on the bridge (on a parapet or abutment-mounted sign). They will also require the date and time of the incident.
