Register a birth

Registering a birth

When a child is born you must register the birth within 42 days of the date of birth. The child should be registered in the registration district in which it was born.

For babies born in Hull, you can book an appointment to register the birth at Hull Register Office located within The Wilson Centre on Alfred Gelder Street.

We do also offer a limited number of appointments at the Priory Childrens Centre. Appointments at this location are only available on certain days each week. Appointments are released at regular intervals.

If when using the appointment system, the system does not display any appointments at your chosen location this will mean there are no appointments available to book at the current time, either check back later or select an alternative location.

Appointments must be booked online and cannot be booked over the telephone.

If you are unable to attend an appointment or experience difficulty when booking an appointment, please contact us at register.office@hullcc.gov.uk.

If you live outside of Hull and would prefer to register at your local register office, you can contact that office to enquire about completing a declaration. It is possible for an alternative office to gather the information needed to register the birth. In doing so they will ask you to sign a declaration. They will then send this declaration to us, which will allow us to complete the registration without you needing to be present.

Once the registration has been completed you will be able to order the birth certificate from us online
