Attending a new appointment
If the parents are married or in a civil partnership only one parent needs to attend the appointment.
If unmarried or not in a civil partnership both parents will need to attend for the father's details to be recorded in the register. There is no need to bring your baby to the appointment.
If you are a same-sex couple wishing to register please contact us via email - register.office@hullcc.gov.uk so that we can check some details with you prior to your appointment to ensure we give accurate advice and that your appointment runs smoothly.
Information about what you will be asked and what you will need when you register a birth can be found on the gov.uk website.
It is very important that the information recorded in the register is correct. You will be asked to check the register page carefully before signing it and the end of the appointment. It may be useful to bring documents to refer to and use to check the accuracy of spellings. Any corrections that have to be made after the registration has been completed can take time and will cost up to £90, plus the cost of replacement certificates.
