Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting search

You can search from any page on this website.

How to search

  1. Select the search icon at the top of the page
  2. Enter a word or even a short phrase for example council tax, bins, street lighting
  3. Press enter or click on search

Search tips

  • use key words rather than full sentences. For example, instead of 'when is my next bin collection date', try 'bin collection'
  • avoid specifics. For example, do not include addresses, street names or postcodes
  • try a different word if the search cannot find what you are looking for the first time. For example, if 'waste' shows no results, try 'rubbish'
  • check spelling

The search results are by relevance. The most popular services are the first to appear.

Use the main menu

The main menu is at the top of every page and is grouped in topics. These include –

  • council and democracy
  • council tax
  • benefits
  • housing
  • schools
  • parking
  • business and licensing

Select a section to see the subject you want to view and related pages.

Using links on pages

Most pages include links to –

  • online forms
  • services
  • further information

Links are highlighted and open in the same browser menu unless otherwise specified.

Breadcrumb navigation

At the top of each council page you will see a breadcrumb trail, for example Home | Web help | Troubleshooting

You can select any part of the breadcrumb trail to move back to a previous section.

Top tasks and quick links

Some pages include popular tasks and quick links to help you find popular services such as –

  • pay your council tax
  • report a missed bin
  • get a parking permit

If you are struggling to find what you need –
