Parking permits
Depending on where you live there may be different permits available to you. You can find details of the different types of permits available below.
New residents
If your address is in a resident controlled parking zone, you will need to apply for a parking permit.
You can apply for a residents temporary permit if you do not have the documents you need to make a full application, a list of required proofs can be found on applying for a permit.
A temporary permit lasts for 2 weeks.
Resident permits
Resident permits allows you to park in resident controlled parking zones, in place for your address.
Resident controlled parking zones (Opens in a new window)
A residents permit –
- costs £22 and lasts for 12 months
- does not guarantee you a parking space or give you the right to park outside your house
- does not provide an exemption from any other on-street parking restrictions such as double yellow lines
- can be digital, and these will be recognised from your vehicle registration details. This includes cars, motorbikes, and vans
City centre permits
If you live in the city centre controlled zone, and you have a city centre meter zone residents' exemption permit, you can park in any on-street pay and display parking place without charge or time limit.
A city centre permit -
- cost £80
- lasts for 12 months
The permit does not provide an exemption from any other on-street parking restrictions such as -
- double yellow lines
- motorcycle bays
- disabled bays
- loading bays
You may also park in George Street, Pryme Street or Osborne Street multi-storey car parks.

The transponder -
- operates vehicle and pedestrian doors for entry and exit.
- requires a deposit of £25 is required which is refunded on return of the transponder.
Carer permits
Carer permits are available for carers of residents who are in receipt of a high level of care at home.
There is no charge for a Carers permit. A permit will only be issued if there is no alternative parking available.
Annual visitor permits (mews parking)
Residents who live in a mews property can purchase an annual visitor permit which -
- costs £22
- lasts for 12 months
- is valid within your street only.
Stadium zone permits
Residents who live in the stadium zone, who held a permit on or before 31 October 2014 are entitled to a permit free of charge providing the permit has been continuously renewed each year.
Eligibility remains with the named permit holder. Existing rights cannot be transferred to a different named person even if you reside at the same address.
Blue Badge holders
A Blue Badge holder does not need a residential permit if they are correctly displaying a badge within their car.
