Boothferry Road Footbridge

Boothferry road footbridge

Following an inspection in November 2020, it was found that Boothferry Road Footbridge has numerous defects.

Works to the concrete and steel elements were carried out multiple times throughout the life of the structure, however, due to the design of the structure, any works to these elements deteriorate quickly.

There is also an ongoing risk with the tie bar that holds the structure together, which is buried beneath the road and acts as the anchor for the bridge.

This tie bar is an unconventional design and is not in accordance with current design standards.

There are various constraints and challenges to addressing the issues with the footbridge, therefore we are exploring options for the structures decommission. Until this takes place, the structure will continue to be monitored every six months.

As part of this decommission, highway improvements work will be carried out to improve the crossing facilities at ground level, to ensure pedestrian safety.

Details of the confirmed programme, including exact timeframes, will be announced on this page, and on Hull CC News.
