Ennerdale Bridge

Ennerdale bridge

Following a principal inspection in 2023, it was found that the bearings on Ennerdale Bridge are corroded due to general wear and tear and need to be replaced. The replacement of bridge bearings is an essential part of routine maintenance, to ensure safety.

Additionally, the tower legs are corroding due to ingress of water which needs to be investigated further and repaired accordingly.

To maintain safety, and ensure the bridge remains operational, we are looking to replace the bearings and carry out any other necessary works identified within the next five years.

It should be anticipated that this scheme will impact on some journeys during the works. We will look at ways to mitigate these impacts wherever possible.

Details of the confirmed programme, including exact timeframes, will be announced on this page, and on Hull CC News.

In the meantime, whilst the programme is being developed, the bridge retains sufficient loading capacity to operate safely and is currently open to all traffic.
